History:
While ALC opened its doors in the fall of 1989, God’s design for the school had been forming for several years. In 1985, ALC’s founder, Rick Patton, began praying for God’s leading in forming a Christian educational ministry to homeschooling students and families. Convinced of the merits of homeschooling, Rick redirected his educational training and experience away from traditional public and private Christian schools toward the growing homeschool community. After an initial information meeting in the spring of 1989, ALC welcomed its first class of 8 elementary students later that fall in the church facilities of Malvern Bible Chapel in Malvern, PA.
In the fall of 1992, ALC moved its educational program to Camp Sankanac in Chester County, where it continues to conduct its ministry. In the years following the move to Camp Sankanac, the elementary program grew into a middle school program, which then grew into a high school program. Although the three programs have evolved over the years, ALC’s purpose and educational philosophy have remained rooted to that original vision for ministry which can be read in ALC’s statements of purpose and philosophy.
ALC has graduated classes since 1996. Over 86 % of ALC graduates have pursued higher education at notable Christian and secular universities. While these accomplishments are noteworthy, ALC’s primary purpose is to see its students embrace God in Christ, “in whom are hidden all of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col. 2:3).
